How many movies have used real marijuana?
There are so many movies about pot. So many that it has created its own genre of films. My question, though, is how many of those movies actually have its characters smoking actual pot? I know in the 60s movie Easy Rider, Jack Nicholson actually gets high in the scene. With movies like Pineapple Express and etc, where the it is marijuana-themed, why wouldn’t producers allow the actors to smoke a joint? I mean smoking a little isn’t gonna make you forget that your making a movie right now. The actor just has to have some skill in improvisation.
djaca70, yes jack nicholson is actually getting high in Easy Rider. and pineapple express is marijuana-themed, seeing as the theme of the movie is about the stupid shit people do when they’re stoned. and finally, the reason why movies are in production for so long is because they do about one scene per day. so the actor would be fine after they nail the scene. and if the actor is portraying someone high, why not film someone who is actually high? its not like their gonna give the stoned character some epic line

How can I deal with college course load? how to finding a major and a purpose in life?
I’m in university right now and I’m trying to get good grades but feel like i can’t keep up with the school load. I’m taking genetics, linear algebra and microeconomics. It takes me an an hour to read 1 or 2 pages of my genetics book to actually understand the concepts. There is just so much hours in a day and i need to eat, travel to class, go to class, etc. and before i know it the day is over and i don’t get much done. I also don’t get much sleep. I feel like i learn best when I read the book (but i can’t keep up with the readings) Lectures are not helpful and neither are supplement tutoring if i haven’t read. I have all 3 midterms next week and i don’t know how to go about studying for them. The world is spinning so fast.

Everyday when I study linear algebra i spend a lot of time on it; genetics as well. Whenever i study one subject i feel like i don’t have time to study the other subjects. And that is why I’m behind in all my classes.

I feel depressed right now because i just feel like I’m going to fail all my classes. I want to be a biology major and work in the the in the science field. I know this is silly, but one reason i want to work in science is because they make a lot of money. But I’m also interested in health beauty. I’m thinking of becoming a pharmacist, make skin care products for companies(ppl say i should become a dermatologist because I’m always taking about skincare and health.), or become an optometrist, but i feel like the classes are so hard that I cant do it. my boyfriend tell me that i should just switch majors because its beyond my reach or I’m just not interested in the subject enough to continue studying science. Sometimes agree him but i don’t want to give up on my dreams. I feel really bad. I know i have a lot of soul searching to do but i don’t know where to start.

So now i’m exploring different classes outside of science. But i feel every class is almost as difficult and that i don’t know what to major in anymore.

I feel lost and hopeless in life and i don’t know what to do or how to deal with my grades. sigh……..
Can someone tell me where to begin and what i should do? how do i deal with my classes? Should i drop out of the science major?

note: I don’t want to drop any classes because i’m getting financial aid so I have to be a full time student.
I’m attending a University of California, and my school is in the quarter system so classes are only 10 weeks long.

first things first take a step back and take a deep breath. You are overwhelmed and freaking out isnt going to help anything. your classes are difficult but mangible. just keep telling yourself you can do it.

I know what you are going through. I am a science major at a university as well. I have difficult classes and that good GPA is looming over my head. I also work 20 hours a week. What I always do is take a break between studying. I study for a few hours take a short break and pick it up again later, It helps get rid of the monotomy and makes it so you dont go cross eyed reading.

At my school the minimum grade to continue and stuff is like a 2.0. not as high as you might expect. Many graduate schools, like med school, are not focused on grades. It is nice to get good grades but you do not need to be that 4.0 student to get in. they like to see other things as well.
My point being it is not that big a deal if you do not do well in one class. if you did not do as well as you hade hoped sometimes you can take it again to do better.

If you decide that science is just to hard there are many other great careers out there some involving science but with less math

maybe next quarter or semester take a class in a differnt discipline instead of just science to mix it up a bit.

Your problem is that your SAT scores and GPA are way low, that’ll probably be a huge problem for you. At best, you’d be a slightly above average candidate, and slightly above average doesn’t cut it when 35,000 people apply for 1,000 slots.

I applaud your extremely good scores and dedication. I can’t say you are a definite for entry, but I’d bet you would be high on the list of applicants. Something you’ve got to realize is, there are about 10,000 to 12,000 candidates with the same academic background and roughly 3000 candidates with the same JROTC background ( I guessed on that number honestly, but you’ve got to figure that I’m close).

You said you’re enlisted now? That will increase your chances, as will your increased age and coming college attendance. You could make it easily in my opinion, but you should talk to a West Point recruiting officer for more details.

Your competitiveness is probably not a lot different than last year. The issue is scholastic qualification with a 1740 SAT score and a 3.44 GPA, though the academies consider class rank based on weighted GPA rather than raw GPA. They also factor in the competitive level of the school based on the percentage of students going on to 4 year universities. A 1740 SAT is below the lower end of the Middle 50% range of candidates appointed directly to the academy. And unless your class rank is significantly higher than GPA indicates, it is also going to fall in that range. I’d assume that most candidates who had standardized test scores in the lower 25% had high class rank to compensate.

West Point offers the Prep School to candidates who are not quite scholastically qualified. Unless your current SAT scores or GPA are significantly higher than when you applied last year, nothing has changed in terms of scholastic qualification. Very few appointments come directly out of the enlisted ranks, and I read that the Navy now requires enlisted to have served two years active duty to be offered the Naval Academy Prep School. I don’t know if this change has also taken place for USMAPS. The Prep school is about 90% recruited athletes and candidates recruited for other purposes of the academy and 10% candidates who actually have served on active duty. A high school candidate offered the Prep School is enlisted in the Army Reserves and placed on active duty on entering the Prep School, which allows him to attend. Then if he completes the Prep School year he is given an appointment to West Point based on a Secretary of the Army(military) nomination if he has not received a nomination from any other source. You have an automatic Presidential nomination since your Dad is retired military, so that might be the nomination you would be appointed on to preserve Secretary of the Army nominations. If a prior civilian Prep school candidate does not complete the Prep School year his reserve contract is voided. West Point does not indicate how many Cadets were prior enlisted other than to say 25 were combat veterans, which I can take to mean 25 had prior enlisted service.

USNA clearly indicates that 15 Sailors and 4 Marines entered directly from the enlisted ranks, and 17 Sailors and 7 Marines from the Prep School. That is almost exactly 10% of the 242 appointments from the Prep School.

My mother's neighbor shot and killed my chocolate lab on his property, is there anything I can do?
Is happened though a strange chain of events. My dog stayed inside the house when no one was home because he was not only my best friend, but a hunting dog, a competition dog, and potential breeding male. Some how, the back door of my mother’s house was open, which allowed for my dog to go into the back yard, which is fenced in. The meter man came to check our meter and the neighbors. A witness across the street said my dog had jumped the fence and came after the meter man. The meter man kept him back with a stick, and emptied a large can of maize on him. The meter man then reported it back to his supervisor and that was as far as it went because they said my dog went back under the carport and was no longer an issue. Then a few minutes later, the neighbor said he went outside to check his mail with his handgun in his hand. Once the neighbor walked out past his house, my dog saw him and charged at him growling. He yelled at my dog and the dog stopped and started toward the house. Then the neighbor started back towards his house and my dog came back at him. The neighbor yelled again and my dog stopped again, farther away than he stopped the first time. Then the neighbor took aim and shot him in the chest killing him. The police were called and the meter reading company. The supervisor said that the meter reads carry a sound machine and maize to keep dogs from attacking them. Understandable, but why did the meter man have a large stick with him in a back yard that has no tree? This man had been checking the meter for over a year and never complained to me. Also, why didn’t the police get called then for them to come get my dog? To let you know more about my dog, we had been training for about 2 1/2 years. He had already won four different ribbons from hunt test. We had started working to get his master hunter title. My dogs sire, which charged 1,500 just to breed with him, was a well know chocolate lab in the competition world because of the titles he had earned. This was not just some back yard pet. He slept in the bed with me, was always are other people, other dogs, and children. My dog was valued around 12,000 dollars because of his cost and training. And potentially worth more because he was a dog people were wanting to breed their dogs with him. Is there anything I can do?
From further investigation, it looks as if the meter man sprayed my dog and my moms dog while they were still in the back yard.
Thanks for the answers, and also he was not allowed to roam the neighborhood. This was a freak accident. The back door to my mothers house was opened some how, that why he was in the back yard. That is also being investigated.

Your dog was odviously very aggressive and lacked training. The neighbor was within his rights to put down the dog that was on HIS property and threatening him.

If this dog was so precious you should have made more of an effort to keep him restrained.

Dude, you’re out of luck and very lucky you’re not in jail right now. They could easily press charges on you for felony endangerment because you allowed your dog to run loose. His aggression was met in self defense according to your story. Learn how to take care of a dog before getting another. How in the world you allowed your dog to run free and terrorize everyone then wonder why it got killed is beyond comprehension.

Sorry to hear you lost your dog.

Well, you could sue, however with a report from the meter reader that your dog was vicious your chances are pretty slim. I assume since you did not mention it that the guy that shot your dog was not arrested. That will go against you as well as the police obviously felt he was justified to shoot the dog.
